Acyclostad 5% Cream 10 g
Composition
Each 1 g contains: Acyclovir 50 mg
Product Description
Acyclostad is an antiviral medication, a synthetic analogue of the nucleoside thymidine, with highly selective activity against herpes viruses.
In virus‑infected cells, acyclovir is converted by viral thymidine kinase into mono-, di-, and triphosphate forms.
Acyclovir triphosphate is incorporated into the viral DNA chain and blocks its synthesis through competitive inhibition of viral DNA polymerase.
The drug selectively accumulates in cells affected by herpes viruses.
It is active against Herpes simplex types 1 and 2, Varicella zoster, and Epstein–Barr virus; moderately active against cytomegalovirus.
In herpes infections, it prevents the formation of new lesions, reduces the risk of cutaneous dissemination and visceral complications, accelerates crust formation, and decreases pain in the acute phase of herpes zoster.
